Peter Luca - Cuina Chen

Peter spent 7 years in China (1999-2006) teaching college level English. He is quick to state that he was not on the mainland as a tourist, visiting professor or CEO of a Fortune 500 company. He was there, elbow to elbow, neck to neck, going through the daily grind with the common people of China. He was there, abiding by the rules and regulations of a foreign system that was literally on the other side of the planet.

He got beyond the ceremonial politeness accorded to foreign teachers or foreigners in general and was able to enter a few kitchens- sometimes by invitation and other times by happenstance. At times, many times, he was accepted. Sometimes he was not. Just like anywhere else, he was categorized and placed into a slot. As long as he was polite and courteous and honored his contract, he was welcome as a foreigner. Now that he is back in the states, he has a lot of experiences and thoughts to share. Presently, Peter is beginning a lecture tour at private and public schools, showing slides and talking about everyday life in the People's Republic of China.

He holds a B.A. in English from Binghamton University, New York. Currently residing in north western Connecticut, he spends his time with his family, writing and working.
